WOC has long recognized the important role the legislature plays in the management
of our lands and protection of our environmental quality. After all, the legislature establishes the laws regulating activity on the lands. Consequently, each year WOC
maintains a presence in Cheyenne during the legislative session, letting legislators know
what our members are thinking in respect to a wide variety of topics including
public land access, brownfields legislation, mineral taxation, drinking water
safeguards, wildlife protections. We work with other lobbyists to build the
legislature's understanding of and support for issues and we prepare alerts
for our members to keep them informed and involved.
WOC also chooses at times to become involved on the national level when the issue has significant relevance to the protection of Wyoming's lands and other natural resources. Currently, with the development of an energy bill as a major national priority, we have been involved in providing information, insight, policy suggestions and personal experience to both national environmental organizations and the legislators. These actions are critical to shaping an energy plan that reflects our nation's values and addresses the concerns of those who experience its effects most vividly.
As a 501(c)(3) WOC has clear limits on the amount of lobbying we can do. Our lobbying activities fall well within those limits.
