Get Wild! SKI THE LOOP
ROAD!
On Saturday, March 6, the Wyoming
Outdoor Council is sponsoring a ski of the Louis Lake Loop Road from the parking
lot along State Highway 28 near South Pass to Bruce’s parking lot in
Sinks Canyon. Join us as we ski the snow-covered primitive road through this
southeastern tip of the nation’s oldest national forest, the Shoshone
National Forest. Portions of this road are under threat of significant reconstruction,
which will drastically change the backcountry nature of the area.
We are planning: 1) A full-length (28 mile) ski of the Loop Road from the
highway to Bruce’s; and 2) A shorter option from the highway Grannier
Meadows (about 6 miles one way) and back to the highway
You must provide: all your own skiing equipment; appropriate clothing including
warm hat and extra layers (it is winter!); ENERGY; adequate level of fitness
and health; a commitment to leaving no trash along the way.
WHEN and WHERE: Saturday, March 6.
-- To carpool, meet at WOC, 262 Lincoln, Lander at 7:45 a.m.
-- If not carpooling, meet at the Louis Lake Road turnoff on SH 28 by 8:30
AM.
WHY: Experience the beautiful, still primitive Loop Road and its environs
in winter and HAVE FUN!
IN CASE OF QUESTIONABLE WEATHER: Meet at WOC at 7:45 a.m. so plans can be
discussed and confirmed. If we are canceling the ski, we will attempt to call
all registered skiers by 7:30 a.m. March 6.
