Get Out There and See the Red Desert!

WOC's preeminent Red Desert Rat, Mac Blewer, will lead four outings in the desert this summer and fall. Here's your chance to see for yourself what all the fuss is about!

July 27-28
Steamboat Mountain and Killpecker Dunes Two-Night Camping Trip
Camp for two nights and two days on Steamboat Mountain with day hikes around Steamboat, the Dunes and Boar's Tusk. This area is home to rare desert elk and is the epicenter of the controversy surrounding oil and gas development in the Jack Morrow Hills Study Area. The base camp is a stone's throw from the road. A local spring will provide the group with all necessary water. Group limited to six campers.

August 3 and August 31
Honeycomb Buttes Day Hikes
Spend the entire day in the mysterious, rainbow-colored badlands of the Honeycomb Buttes Wilderness Study Area. Due to the area's typically high summer temperatures, Oregon Buttes Wilderness Study Area and White Horse Creek Wilderness Study Area may be used as backup areas in case it is too hot. Group limited to eight hikers.

September 28-29
Honeycomb Buttes Overnight Camping Trip
Spend one night and two days in the Honeycomb Buttes. Base camp is within a mile of the Wilderness Study Area boundary road. Bring as much water as you can. Group limited to six campers.

For more information or to reserve a space on one of these trips, contact Mac Blewer at (307) 332-7031, extension 13, or mac@wyomingoutdoorcouncil.org
