Welcome Linda Baker

by Kelly Matheson

WOC, together with the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, The Wilderness Society and the Wyoming Chapter of the Sierra Club, have hired long-time Sublette County resident and environmental activist, Linda Baker, to serve as Upper Green Grassroots Coordinator.

Linda will represent conservation interests during the Resource Management Plan (RMP) revision process being undertaken by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for its Pinedale Resource Area, which includes the Upper Green River Basin. A strong local voice in this process is essential, as the revised RMP will guide the agency's land-management practices in the southern reaches of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem over the next 10 to 15 years. Linda will focus her efforts in four primary areas:

  • Protecting the world-class big-game animals that depend on the Upper Green River Basin for survival;
  • Safeguarding air quality for area residents and protecting Class I airsheds over wilderness areas in the Wind River Range;
  • Increasing public awareness of the Green River Basin's significance as an integral part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem; and
  • Promoting public participation in the RMP revision process.
"Protecting the Green River Basin and its wildlife, clean air and clean water is not only essential for Wyoming residents," Linda notes, "but it benefits the American people by preserving one of our country's national public-lands treasures."
