The WOCmobile is Dying!

by Christine Lichtenfels

Have you been thinking about trading in your car for a newer model, even thought you know that most dealers won't pay you a fair price for your used vehicle?

Here's an alternative: donate your car to WOC and deduct its fair-market value from your income taxes.

WOC's only car, a generous gift to us several years ago, is nearly 20 years old, has been driven almost 200,000 miles, and has an intimate relationship with its mechanic. We're looking for a car that has been serviced regularly, gets good gas mileage and, ideally, has all-wheel or four-wheel drive.

If you itemize deductions on your tax return and donate a vehicle to WOC, you can deduct its fair-market value. (This may or may not equal its Blue Book value.) For guidance in calculating the fair-market value of your car and determining whether donating it to WOC will provide you with tax benefits, take a look at IRS Publications 526 and 561 at www.irs.gov.

While you reap tax benefits - and the satisfaction of giving something truly worthwhile to a good cause - WOC saves money on frequent car repairs and gets a "new" vehicle to drive safely across the wild expanses of Wyoming.

Please give me a call at (307) 332-7031 if you have any questions or are interested in donating a car to WOC. Let's help the federal government support our conservation work!
