Chronic Wasting Disease
2008-05-21  Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a highly contagious neurological disease that causes degeneration in the brain tissue of affected animals. CWD is similar to mad cow disease, but is known to occur only in the cervid family (elk, deer, and moose). ... more>
Air Quality in the Upper Green River Valley
2006-05-05  The Upper Green River Valley in western Wyoming has some of the cleanest air in the world. Such air quality allows for clear views that stretch for up to 100 miles. Unfortunately, it has become apparent to all that there are more and more days when the visibility is more like 45 miles than 100 miles.  ... more>
Gas Fields Richly Reward Drillers: Companies Can Afford to Pace Development and do More to Protect Land, Air and Wildlife
2005-09-02  Some of the world’s largest energy companies are making huge profits on the Upper Green River Valley, extracting nearly $4 billion in natural gas in 2004. The Jonah gas field’s 720 completed wells, for example, now produce on average 750 million cubic feet of natural gas a day. In other words, the Jonah grosses at least $4 million a day at today’s high prices, which have averaged more than $6 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) in recent months and have spiked to $10 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. With 10 to 13.5 trillion cubic feet concentrated under the Jonah and another 20 to 40 trillion under the nearby Pinedale Anticline, the Upper Green will generate vast profits for the companies doing business here for years. ... more>
Air Quality and the Jonah Infill: The Thickening Mess in the Upper Green’s Skies
2005-09-01  In August 2005 the Pinedale Bureau of Land Management released a supplemental analysis of air quality impacts for the proposed Jonah Infill project and other development in Wyoming’s Upper Green River Valley. This document—the Jonah Infill Drilling Project Air Quality Technical Supplemental Document—predicts significant degradation of the area’s pristine air if changes aren’t made to the pace of development and control measures imposed. The degradation is expected to be widespread and will include impacts to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. ... more>
