Wyoming is the seventh leading oil producing state in the union, accounting for 3 percent of the United States’ annual production. Wyoming has the fourth largest proved oil reserves in the country. There are five oil refineries in Wyoming. Wyoming also has substantial oil shale deposits in the southern part of the state that could at some point be developed.
